BEYOND BOUNDS • GLOW is a benefit for the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art celebrating Johnson County Community College’s 40th (Ruby) anniversary. More than 115 regional, national and international artists using special ruby red mediums will participate in live and silent auctions. The event will be held Saturday, October 24th, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Beyond Bounds History
In 1992, the first Beyond Bounds benefit was conceived on behalf of the JCCC Gallery of Art. Artists were sent a plain, white silk scarf, and asked to transform it and send it back for auction. The event raised $75,000!
Held biennially, Beyond Bounds has continued since that time, and with each event, artists all over the country (and sometimes around the world) receive raw materials, and are asked to take what they receive and use their considerable talents to produce an original work of art. Past events have featured a wooden box, a wooden frame, Japanese shikishi, vinyl LPs, sterling silver and 24K gold leaf. In its history, Beyond Bounds has raised nearly $500,000 to support exhibitions, acquisitions and arts education programs.
For our eighth event, we will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Johnson County Community College, with the first Beyond Bounds held in the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art! Participating artists received 8 different media in the color Ruby Red. The results are spectacular, and, once installed in the galleries on the first floor of the Nerman Museum, the space will glow ruby red!
