You Know What’s Real

The inaugural exhibition in the McCaffree Gallery featured works on paper from the museum’s permanent collection. The title refers to the 2003 work on paper by Muntean/Rosenblum, Untitled (Nothing says anything but you know what's real).

Artists Included:

Leroy Allen was born in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1951. After earning a BA in design from the University of Kansas in 1977, he took continuing education classes in painting at the Kansas City Art Institute. He died in 2007.

Ky Anderson was born in 1973 in Kansas City, Missouri, graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1995, and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Michael Bilsborough was born in 1979 in California and now lives and works in New York City. He earned an MFA in 2006 from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and a BA in 2001 from Columbia University.

Marcus Cain was born in 1970. He earned his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1998 and lives and works in Kansas City.

Amy Cutler was born in 1974 in Poughkeepsie, New York. She received her BFA in 1997 from the Cooper Union School of Art, New York, and then studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

Jeff Davis was born in 1967 in Hanford, California; he now lives and works in New York. Davis earned a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1995.

David Dupuis was born in 1959 in Holyoke, Massachusetts; he lives and works in New York. He earned a BFA in Art and a BA in Theatre in 1982 from the University of Washington, Seattle, and he studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.

Jason Fox was born in 1964 in Yonkers, New York. Fox received a BFA in 1986 from Cooper Union, New York, and an MFA in 1998 from Columbia University, New York. He currently lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Peregrine Honig was born in 1976 and grew up in San Francisco. She earned her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2002 and now lives and works in Kansas City.

Jonathan Knight was born in 1959 in Daytona Beach, Florida, and now lives and works in Kansas City. In 1999 he received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. 

Dean Mitchell was born in 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, grew up near Tallahassee, Florida, and now lives in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio with a BFA in 1980 and an honorary MA in 1994.

Markus Muntean was born in 1962 in Graz, Austria; Adi Rosenblum was born in 1962 in Haifa, Israel; Muntean/Rosenblum live and work in London and Vienna.

Zigmunds Priede was born in 1935 in Latvia and now lives and works in Olathe, Kansas. He earned an MA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from the University of Minnesota.

Dana Schutz was born in 1976 in Livonia, Michigan, and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received an MFA from Columbia, earned a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and also studied at the Norwich School of Art and Design in England.

Mie Yim was born in 1963 in South Korea and now lives and works in New York. She earned a BFA in 1986 from the Philadelphia College of Art and also studied at the Tyler Art School in Rome, Italy; the Mid-Pacific Institute, Honolulu, Hawaii; and the Parsons School of Design, New York.
