BEYOND BOUNDS · DAZZLING!

BEYOND BOUNDS · DAZZLING! offers extraordinary works of art for purchase.

BEYOND BOUNDS · DAZZLING!, the biennial art auction gala benefiting the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College, offers a unique opportunity for artists and one-of-a-kind purchases for art patrons at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017. DAZZLING! celebrates the museum’s 10th anniversary in 2017 and the 25th anniversary of the Oppenheimer Collection, and will also honor museum patrons and renowned collectors Margaret Nerman and her late husband, Jerry Nerman.

When considering a theme for this year’s BEYOND BOUNDS event – and the museum’s 10th Anniversary Gala – frequently used expressions regarding the museum leapt to mind. Often cited as the “Crown Jewel of Johnson County” or “a Kansas City Jewel,” these comments served as inspiration for DAZZLING!

The Nerman Museum has consistently kept ticket prices low to encourage both new and seasoned collectors to bid enthusiastically on the art. Begun in 1992, BEYOND BOUNDS events have raised nearly $1,000,000 to fund acquisitions, educational programs and exhibitions for the museum. For this year’s event, the museum chose to send artists DAZZLING mediums (Micro Jewel glitter, Crystallina (diamond dust), Winsor and Newton or Daniel Smith oil paint, Golden acrylics, Daniel Smith gouache, Sakura Gelly Roll pens and Prismacolor pencils).

“Many of Kansas City’s most renowned collectors eagerly anticipate each BEYOND BOUNDS,” said Bruce Hartman, Executive Director of the Nerman Museum. “The works by participating artists are always incredible. We are indebted to their generosity.”

These original works will be sold during live and silent auctions. The evening also includes a lavish gourmet buffet of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and desserts and musical entertainment. All attendees will also receive a BEYOND BOUNDS catalogue that will illustrate the works on view that evening.

Hundreds of artists, collectors, museum professionals and art enthusiasts are expected to attend from throughout the region and country.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to acquire art, but also to familiarize oneself with many of the region’s and nation’s most prominent artists, and the auctions are always thrilling,” stated Hartman.

“This year, the live auction will be especially DAZZLING! as Sara Friedlander, Head of the Postwar and Contemporary Art department of Christie’s, New York, has graciously agreed to serve as auctioneer for the event. As the head of Christie’s New York Evening Sales, Ms. Friedlander has overseen six of Christie’s most successful auctions, including its highest-grossing sale of all time.”
